Methods and Models for e-Health is a research line of the Interactive Sensory System (SSI) Division of the Centre for Scientific and Technological Research (ITC-irst).
« e-Health refers to the use of modern information and communication technologies to meet needs of citizens, patients, healthcare professionals, healthcare providers, as well as policy makers. »
This definition of e-Health was first developed in the e-Health Ministerial Declaration (22 May 2003) and made during the 2003 e-Health Ministerial Conference.
The e-Health Research Line was created in 1999 as the
"Unità applicativa di Informatica Medica e Telemedicina" -
Medical Informatics and Telemedicine Laboratory (IMT).
Its principal aim was to promote the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
to support healthcare activities.
Our main areas of interest were Telemedicine
(web-based applications for supportive teleconsulting and for on-line continuing education)
and Medical Informatics (technological infrastructure for supporting
evidence-based shared-care).
